"SEM's further mission is to engage in research and scholarly activities that contribute basic and applied discovery to enhance knowledge and to facilitate graduate student learning. The School plans to build research clusters to utilize the expertise and experience of the faculty, together with the unique opportunities afforded by the UND campus and region, in developing nationally recognized research programs in niche areas."

Engineered Surfaces Center
The University of North Dakota School of Engineering and Mines has teamed up with a national defense research company to develop new surfaces and coatings that will mean much longer lasting life for military aircraft and vehicle engine parts. Click here for more information.

Research Facilities

Environmental Analytical Research Laboratory
EARL houses an ion chromatograph, an atomic absorption spectrometer, a total organic carbon analyzer, sulfur analyzers and ancillary equipment to support teaching, scientific research and engineering design projects. Click here to go to the EARL Website.
